The rain couldn’t stop thousands of diehard Fiesta fans from heading down to the San Antonio Riverwalk on Monday night, myself included! Waking up to a downpour I was worried that the 75th annual Texas Cavaliers River Parade would be cancelled. But the skies cleared midday and held off so the show could go on! And what a show it was. Float after decorated float passed by, most blaring festive music. The parade kept true to its roots including boats for schools, local businesses, civic organizations and the military. The crowd was definitely enjoying themselves as King Antonio XCIII reigned over the festivities. From my vantage point, as part of the Fiesta Commission’s seating at the Marriott Riverwalk, it was fun to be surrounded by citizens deeply rooted in the community. They waved and shouted as their friends and family passed by on barges. There was dancing, drinking, eating and socializing. All money raised supports local children’s charities through the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation. If you’re reading this and have never been to the River Parade, make sure to put it on the top of your list next year. It was so enjoyable and is definitely going to be a yearly event for me!
