It’s one of my favorite times of the year, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! If you are unfamiliar, let me be the first to tell you, it’s the best sale ever! Not only are you getting 30-40% off, the discount is on BRAND NEW fall merchandise, not end of season items. And as I’ve said before, I rarely ever buy anything full price. Working in retail most of my life, I know there’s really no reason to! And it’s a good excuse to go through your closet and get ready for the next season, while consigning items you no longer use.
Here’s everything you need to know about this amazing event:
The items stay on sale through August 7th and include Women’s, Men’s, Home, Kids, Shoes and Trend markdowns. On the 8th, the merchandise goes back up to full price. The sale is now open to anyone, you can purchase with any tender, and you can shop in-store or online. If you are a Nordstrom card holder, you get first access for 8 days, which began on July 14th this year. If you’re not the type to open up department store cards, I would make an exception for Nordstrom, just for this annual sale. They tend to sell out of the most popular items during early access. Plus, they offer a debit card option where you can still receive points! Speaking of points, I chose to use my Triple Point Day for my purchase. That means I got 6 times the total amount spent in points. For every 2,000 points earned you get a $20 credit to use on a future purchase. Nordstrom has always been great about free shipping and free returns, but they surprised me with an added incentive this year. Curbside pickup! I called 5 minutes before I was about to pull up on a busy Saturday and a sales professional brought my order out to me. She couldn’t have been friendlier and I was blown away by the convenience!
This year I was pretty strategic in my shopping since it will most likely be my only big purchase of the season. I really thought about my current wardrobe, accessories, and makeup. I imagined the full look with each piece I liked and chose items I knew would be versatile. I also looked for cheaper versions of high end items and trends. I started by watching blogger shopping hauls on YouTube. One thing I kept seeing over and over again were the Halogen ‘Owen’ Pointy Toe Ghillie Flats. For $59.90 I thought they were a steal as compared to the similar Aquazzura ‘Christy’ flat which ranges from $675-$1200 (some have recently gone on sale), or the Stuart Weitzman ‘Tyler’ wraparound lace flat for $249.90 in the sale.
I bought the black Owen’s and absolutely LOVE them! I plan to wear them with ankle length black pants, jeans, dresses and skirts. I liked them so much I went back and ordered them in Blush. They come in 6 different colors and run true to size.
Next, I fell in love with this bag by Vince Camuto. I’ve been on the search for the perfect leopard bag for years! I bought one awhile back and ended up returning it because it didn’t meet all of my requirements. I can say with certainty that I’m keeping this one! It has beautiful gold hardware, enough room on the inside for your essentials, and has an adjustable shoulder strap so that it can be worn cross body. It bears a striking resemblance to the Chloe Faye shoulder bag which retails for $1,950! Originally, the Vince Camuto ‘Abril’ version came in 3 color options, but is currently available online for $149.90 in the all black or leopard versions.
A jewelry item that I knew I needed was a large pair of “diamond-like” stud earrings. Since I won’t be able to purchase real 6-carat diamond studs anytime soon, I settled for the Nordstrom brand Precious Metal Plated 6ct Cubic Zirconia Earrings. They were $36.90. I debated between the 6 or 8 carat (3 or 4 carat per side) but ultimately chose the more daily size. I put them on as soon as I got them home, and they were the first thing my husband noticed when he saw me that night. They really do sparkle!
For clothing, I’m super happy with my choice to pick up the Vince Camuto Contrast Trim Blouse for $65.90. I already have the full look in my mind of how I want to wear this! The white top, black ankle length pants, my new Halogen lace up shoes, a red lip and my red Chanel Jumbo. White is a risk for me since I’m so pale but this really does look good! Plus it’s a way cheaper option than a similar style that Vince or Theory has carried in the past.
If you like comfortable, yet stylish pants, run out now and purchase the Halogen Side Zip Ponte Ankle Pants. They come in Regular, Petite and Plus starting at $44.90. Features include a flexible stretch waistband with no pockets and fashionable slit back hems. I originally bought the Burgundy Stem, figuring it would be the perfect fall pop of color. After I tried them on though I knew I needed all of the other colors (grey and black) as well. I plan on altering them to a length that will work with both flats and heels.
My final item of clothing is the Barefoot Dreams drape front cardigan in Pewter, which is a Nordstrom Exclusive, for $59.90. If you research this item at all the same word will appear over and over again. This cardigan is SOFT! I debated between this brand’s throw vs. the cardigan, but ultimately felt I would use this the most in the months here that are chilly, but not cold enough for a jacket.
I’m pretty good in the accessory department, but it was hard to pass on a few fall items. The first being this Treasure & Bond Fringed Stripe Poncho on sale for $45.90. It’s one size fits all (sizes 6-18) and I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of it.
I also picked up this Phase 3 Whipstitch Wool Floppy Hat in heather grey for $19.90 (only available in Black now). I love hats, but for me they are tough to style! Hopefully I will find ways to wear it and it won’t just collect dust!
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is also very popular in the beauty world! Many high end brands come out with exclusive sets just for this sale. Even though I was tempted, I only purchased one item in the beauty department. This MAC ‘Cool Neutral Times 15’ Eye Palette for $65. The colors are absolutely stunning! I really wanted to be able to get the ‘Warm Neutral’ option for Fall, but I just didn’t think the colors would work on my pale skin.
Finally, I’ve been needing a good Weekender bag that can be used for overnight road trips or as a carry-on. Although there are plenty of great deals on this brand in the Anniversary sale, the one I ultimately chose was the full price Sole Society ‘Lacie’ Faux Leather Duffel Bag for $84.95. I loved the saddle brown color and the interior size. Jeff thought I had purchased it for him, so it’s definitely a good unisex bag!
One item that I had high hopes for, but had to return, was this Laundry by Shelli Segal Double Face Drape Collar Coat for $119.90. As much as I LOVED the red color, and thought it would be a great addition to my small coat collection, it was just too shapeless for me. It was not a flattering fit unbuttoned at all.
If you are looking for a trendy fall coat, at an affordable price, I’ve heard many raves about the Moto Jackets included in this sale. There is also a great boot selection for anyone needing a new pair.
In conclusion, I couldn’t be happier with my items and with Nordstrom as a whole. Now if Fall would just hurry up and get here!!
