This week I’m starting a new segment on the blog called “Photo Friday.” I take so many pictures and would like to feature some of my favorites. One of my New Year’s Resolutions this year is to learn more about the craft of Photography. I really enjoy it and know it will add a lot to the blog.

The first picture above is one that I am very proud of. I was asked by my friend Monica, a former co-worker at WOAI, to appear on the local news to talk about my new path in life. She’s the current morning show producer at KENS-5 here in San Antonio. At first I really wanted to say NO. My background is behind the scenes as a news producer, not in front of the camera! Every insecurity came out. I will look huge, I will sound nervous, they will ask a question that I won’t be able to answer. This is one of those things that I easily could have backed out of if I let my negative self-talk get in the way. I said yes immediately though because Monica is one of the sweetest girls I know, and I was honored and flattered to be asked. Heck, the day I released this blog she contacted me! I figured only good could come from it.

So, on Tuesday I got up at 3:30 a.m., chose my outfit, and headed downtown to Twirl Salon. The owner Lisa, who was my first Soul Search feature, offered to have one of her stylists get me ready. Jacky was a trooper getting to the salon at 5 a.m. when she was very sick! She did my hair and makeup and then it was back on the road to KENS. I felt confident in the way I looked.

Once at the studio I was mic’d up and immediately on set with anchor Sarah Forgany. She recognized Walker on the screen behind us, I featured him as a weight loss warrior, and he was her former co-worker in Houston. That really broke the ice for me. She was so friendly and welcoming. We taped two short segments, Following Your Career Passion and Tips to Traveling on the Cheap. And before I knew it, it was over.

The segments were pre-taped and aired Wednesday in the 5-6 a.m. hour and the 6-7 a.m. hour. I was excited to watch them when I woke up. When I showed my husband Jeff he asked, “Weren’t you nervous? You sounded so confident!” It was such a huge compliment coming from him. He wanted to watch the segments over and over. I also got a text from my insurance agent saying “I saw you on TV today. Super awesome! You inspired me!!” I’m trying to get a copy to upload here since it wasn’t posted online.

I’ve been searching for so long to find something that I’m passionate about. Something that doesn’t feel like a job. Well, I’ve found it. Blogging is that thing for me. I just LOVE it! If you’re reading, I hope you follow your heart and try something that scares you every once in awhile.
